My Grandfather

This is my Grandfather. Henry Hussey. Worked hard all his life but for as long as I knew him he had trouble breathing because of lung problems. He got that through working in the building trade constructing tunnels etc. He had a tragic life really as he ahd a lot of talent. Could play the piano and draw beautifully and had an offer to go to arts college but because of poverty couldn`t pursue a life in the arts. Instead was consigned to the building sites.A life wasted because of poverty and a lack of opportunity.
My Great Grandmother.

The old lady in the centre of this photograph is my great grandmother Fanny Amelia Sedge. Born in Gillingham, Kent she spent most of her childhood living on a Thames Sailing barge with her family. She went on to have seventeen children and lived till she was ninety. A little old lady when this photograph was taken in the nineteen fifties but a lady known for having a very big personality and who played a very big part in shaping her family`s life.

What Will I Lose?
I often feel like I want to die.Like I have no reason to go on.Yesterday I felt like that and I thought to myself what would I miss if it all ended.I would miss the sound of a new born baby, the sunrise across our beautiful River Thames, the flowers blooming in springtime and the laughter of children in the summer sun, the words of Byron, Kipling and Yeats and the music of Britten, Mozart and Lennon and McCartney.
In our deepest despair we forget the beauty of life, the things we cherish and the joy we get from them.Life can be hard, sad and lonely but I think I would rather be alive then dead.
